The Beauty Project is a culminating experience that LVHS photography classes created in order to bring our experience to the student body. The jumping-off point was a Youtube video post: "People react to being called beautiful" which was created by ChiArts student Shea Glover. We continued to explore the complicated subject of "Beauty": What is it? Who defines it? How does society impact our notions? Do we value inner-beauty...etc.
Student work took whatever form each group or individual chose to best communicate and engage the LVHS community. Projects included: Buttons with beauty quotes, Sticky-Note locker bombs, Beauty Quotes on every lunch table, Videos that interviewed students about notions of beauty, Posters, Facebook Page, Tweets, Portraits of students that reflected their individual beauty and much more.
The project has taken on a life of its own; A student was so inspired by our work that it influenced her choice for her English social justice project, A beauty sticky-note made its way outside and a woman was seen photographing it, staff/students have uploaded images to their social media, we've received requests for sticky-note bombs from staff and many people have commented on the positivity of the project.
