The Chicago weather may still feel very much like winter, but the Lake View Baseball team is gearing up for Spring 2017! The players have been participating in student-led conditioning sessions in the off-season. Everyone is looking forward to the first practice at the end of February. Coach William Poole, the new Head Baseball Coach for LVHS, along with Assistant Coach Sean Freeman and Assistant Coach Andrew Erdelack, are energized by the growth in the program and he is looking forward to a great season with a full and enthusiastic team. This year, the coaching staff is anticipating a record breaking 35-40 students trying out for the junior varsity team and 33 students trying out for the varsity team on February 27th and 28th.
This year's team will feature six senior student athletes: Ben Collazo, Justin Diaz, Michael Flores, JP Gallegos, Baltazar Patino, and David Post. Another highlight of the baseball team is their continued record of sending their students to play collegiate baseball. For the past six years, their seniors have gone on to play in college. This year, Coach Poole is excitedly anticipates all of their seniors will be joining a college baseball team.
At Lake View, we strive to provide students with ample opportunities to build social/emotional skills as well as academic growth. The baseball team is a prime example of the value added through this emphasis. The baseball coach staff integrates social/emotional learning in their practices through team building exercises. "Team building is part into the weekly routine. They go through difficult conditioning which creates reliance on each other to know that go into something tough with a teammate on the right and a teammate on your left that are in it with you," says Coach Poole.
Home varsity games at Kerry Wood Field, as well as most conference games. We look forward to seeing you at the games to cheer on our players!
