Baseball for All Ages

November 29, 2016

For many players on the Lake View baseball team, their love of the game started at an early age.  Knowing how much they have gotten from the sport, the Lake View baseball team uses the off-season to take the time to give back by fueling that interest in future ball players across the city.

For example, Lake View Wildcats Baseball has teamed up with USA Baseball and the Chicago Cubs.  The Play Ball events, which are part of Major League Baseball's youth initiative, gave the chance for youth across the city to simultaneously develop baseball skills and have a lot of fun. The kids were able to meet and talk to Mayor Rahm Emanuel, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred, Hall of Famers Ken Griffey Jr and Ferguson Jenkins, former Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood and current Met Curtis Granderson. It was a great experience for the Wildcats to be able to work with and teach the next generation of ballplayers. A big part of the Lake View baseball program is giving back to the community and this was a fun and interactive way to help out. Recently, the Wildcats have helped with a number of youth activities including Kerry Wood camp, Cubs Play Ball events.  We are excited to continue providing opportunities for our students to engage with the community through Lake View Winter Camp and other clinics.  Stay tuned to the LV Athletics website for more information!
