Postseason Wrap-Ups

November 8, 2017

Congratulations to several Lake View athletes and teams for major accomplishments this fall.

Junior Ethan Breen competed in the IHSA State Cross Country Meet this past Saturday at Peoria's Detweiller Park and recorded his best ever time of 16:07.0 over the three mile course.  Against the best competition in the state in overcast and soggy conditions, Breen shined, finishing 88th overall out of a field of 210 runners from throughout the state.  Breen's drop in times in the final three weeks of the season was incredible, posting a 16:41 in the Prosser Regional and a 16:20 at the University of Chicago Sectional the following week.  Breen returns next year, and with boys and girls teams advancing to Sectional meets, the future looks bright for Lake View Cross Country.

The Lake View Girls' Swim Team finished their undefeated regular season last week by celebrating a conference championship.  A tremendous accomplishment for the Wildcats.

The boys' soccer team added on to their already successful season by notching two post-season wins, a 2-1 win over Noble/Speer in the opening round and stunned host Bensenville, 4-3 in penalty kicks to capture the Bensenville Regional title.  The Wildcats dropped a tough 5-1 decision to Latin in the opening round of the Bensenville Sectional.  Congratulations on one of the most successful soccer seasons in school history.

The girls' volleyball team also wrapped up one of the best season's in school history this past week.  The Wildcats, who captured a conference championship earlier in October, earned an 11-seed heading into the Timothy Christian Sectional.  Lake View pounded Chicago Noble/Speer in the opening round, 25-10, 25-17 to advance to a tough second-round matchup with 5th-seeded Fenwick.  The Friars knocked off Lake View, 25-9, 25-12 and advanced all the way to the Sectional semifinals before falling to Resurrection.  Resurrection will play in the state semifinals this weekend at Redbird Arena in Normal.  Because of their tremendous success, the girls' volleyball team has earned a spot in the city's toughest conference, the Chicago Public League Gold, next season.  Way to set the bar high, ladies!
