From the moment they walk through our doors, LVHS students are immersed in a comprehensive, four-year education, where STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) learning is meaningfully infused into every course -- from IT Problem Solving, Robotics and Pre-Calculus to Film & Animation, Civics and English Literature.
About Early College STEM Initiative
As an Early College CPS STEM Initiative School, LVHS provides students with an interdisciplinary education that encourages students test their ideas and thinking: to form questions about the world around them, propose possible solutions, develop research and information fluency; to predict, analyze and explain real world phenomena: to collaborate with each other and others around the world: and to communicate and creatively express their thinking.
Our talented faculty further STEM learning by participating in a Professional Learning Community (PLC) that focuses on sharing practices, analyzing data, targeting interventions, and creating a culture of collaboration.
LVHS Innovation Lab
Our state-of-the-art Innovation Lab fosters creativity and self-expression by combining advanced technology with traditional tools. It’s no surprise to see a drill press or a sewing machine sitting next to high-precision laser cutters and 3-D printers. Maker Space classes provide hands-on, project-based learning where students design, build and bring their imaginations to life.
Jobs in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields will expand faster than non-STEM jobs, growing to more than 9 million by 2022.
